Where the Winners Move Next

Tony Yoka seeks to reestablish himself among European heavyweights with a win over a former world titleholder. Lawrence Okolie looks to secure ground at heavyweight after moving up from cruiserweight and bridgerweight.

Yoka, 33, won Olympic gold in 2016 and began his professional career with eleven straight wins before three consecutive defeats stalled his rise. Since relocating his training to London, Tony Yoka has rebuilt with four wins and now returns home seeking a statement performance.

Lawrence Okolie, also 33, held titles at cruiserweight and bridgerweight before moving to heavyweight. He currently holds the WBC Silver title and last defended it against Kevin Lerena at Wembley Stadium in July. Lawrence Okolie’s height and long right hand shape the fight at range.

April 25 in Paris shows whether the domestic stage strengthens France’s presence in two weight classes right now.

  1. Painting Yoka as a paper champion ignores his Olympic pedigree and proven resilience; relocating his camp to London produced measurable improvements. To dismiss him based on past setbacks is short-sighted, and promoters pushing a domestic ‘Le Double’ storyline shouldn’t obscure the fact that skill and preparation will decide this bout.

  2. Tony Yoka has talent but his record shows alarming inconsistency; expecting him to reestablish himself after three losses is naive. Okolie’s transition to heavyweight, size and power create real tactical problems Yoka hasn’t consistently solved. Paris crowd won’t compensate for strategic and conditioning deficits in a 12-round fight.
