Haney Targets Unification in a Second Division
Haney won the WBO welterweight title by dropping and outpointing Brian Norman Jr. in November 2025. He now attempts to unify at another weight after becoming undisputed lightweight champion with victory over George Kambosos Jr. in Australia in 2022.
The San Francisco-born champion has taken belts on the road. This time, he wants to add Paro’s title in front of his Bay Area supporters.
“Now I’m bringing another Australian world champion, Liam Paro, into my backyard. This time, I plan to take his belt and become a unified welterweight world champion right here at home.”
Paro has already spoiled one champion’s homecoming, beating Subriel Matias in Puerto Rico in June 2024. After losing that super lightweight belt to Richardson Hitchins, he moved to welterweight and beat Lewis Crocker in June to claim the IBF championship.
“Three years ago, I was on the undercard at Chase Center the night Devin fought Regis Prograis. I said back then that Haney versus Paro rolls off the tongue. Now it’s here. Champion versus champion, two belts on the line, in his backyard.”
Brian Norman Jr. Faces Abel Ramos
Norman rebuilt after his defeat by Haney by stopping Josh Wagner in two rounds in May. His earlier championship run included stoppage wins over Giovani Santillan, Derrieck Cuevas and Jin Sasaki.
Ramos brings experience from two title challenges. He lost a split decision to Yordenis Ugas in 2020, traded knockdowns with Mario Barrios in a split draw in 2024, and beat previously unbeaten Tahmir Smalls by split decision in February.
The ten-round contest gives Norman another assignment against an experienced welterweight as the two reigning champions meet above him on the bill.

Prediction time with a wink: Haney drags Paro across the canvas and wins a clean decision, while the crowd belts out homecoming hype.
Fans drone that this is a conclusion, yet Paro arrives hungry tonight, stop crying and respect the craft or shut up.
Paro must jam Haney’s timing with stiff lead lefts, disrupt the rhythm, and force clinches to negate footwork advantages.
